this section is dedicated to my skyrim letters, journals and diaries written by characters to each other.
the idea for these pages were spawned when, to my horror, i discovered that my housecarl lydia was… was… a racist.
we had been battling some drauger outside ragnvald when she yelled “skyrim for the nords” and my heart just sank. she was always my favorite companion to travel with but now the idea leaves ash in my mouth. i cannot imagine how she though saying this to ancient dead nords would have an effect on them, but skyrim is not known for its polish.
i began traveling with several other companions instead and decided to create these letters to flesh out how lydia, poor ignorant lydia, could have gone so wrong.
20th of Last Seed: Whiterun
Dear Ma,
I have some exciting news! The Jarl of Whiterun has commissioned my service as Housecarl to the new Thane, I can hardly believe it. While it is early days and I am still wondering what type of man he is, I am pleased to say that it was he who helped bring down the dragon that attacked the watchtower in Whiterun. I feel so proud to serve a real Nord who does not fear anything and risks all to protect his fellow Nords.
He is very quite though. In fact I have yet to hear him speak at all. I have tried to talk to him on a number of occasions but he just makes gestures and points when he wants me to do something. He tends to have me to carry a lot of heavy items and I am ashamed to say that sometimes I am not as grateful to serve him as I should be. I must change my attitude though! He has provided me with all the weapons and armor I could need as well as my own room in his home, even if he has never actually been inside the house.
He seems fair and just and is thankfully a Nord. I will write again soon. I hope you, Da and Fjoli are safe and the farm is well.

10th of Hearthfire: Rorikstead
Dear Ma:
We are somewhere west of Old Rorikstead. My thane has lost some sort of bet, I believe. We have spent a few days combing the countryside looking for a prize goat for a local farmer. He rode this same goat out into the night last week. We were sitting in a pub in Markarth and I think he must have had a barrel of mead. He began speaking to another patron and the next thing I know He is bellowing about a wedding and finding a good wife. He ran out into the night and before I can catch up to him he is riding a goat out into the night. I have to tell you I could barely keep up with him. I am still unclear as to why we are in this situation. But I am sworn to his service, not to question his deeds. Although situations like this do make it hard for me to protect him.
On the bright side, we found a fantastic place to camp, although the bedding leaves something to be desired. I am sure that once we clear the bodies out and wipe up the blood it will be as cozy as can be.

Dear Ma:
I am in absolute sovngarde! After raiding an ancient cairn my Thane presented me with a full set of plate mail in almost perfect condition. The chest piece was a bit troublesome as we had to cut the leather straps off to get the skeleton out. BUT after getting a new set of leather straps in Markarth it fits perfectly. You would be so proud if you could see me in it.
We ransacked a small cairn, just north east of Rorikstead. I have to tell you, my Thane was so through in his desecration of the tomb that not even the moss hanging from the walls escaped his hands.

Dear Ma:
Thank you for the leather skins. I was able to make a pair of gloves and a hood to keep the rain off. I also love the embroidered Stormcloak crests, they are just beautiful. I attached them to the gloves and will always wear them.
I have tried talking to my Thane about Ulfric and his rights to the throne of the High King but he is reticent and silent as always. I know my Thane is just and if I could only show him how true Jarl Ulfric’s vision is. I know he could be a great man in the Jarl’s army.
Until that happy day I try to encourage my Thane by showing my enthusiasm whenever we come across a cause for battle by crying out my praises to Ulfric and out right as Nords to rule Skyrim! Skyrim for the Nords!
